Tower Of London - Haunted

London’s famous Tower, has a notorious and bloody past. Constructed in 1078 by William the Conqueror it is quite possibly the most haunted building in England.

The ghost of Thomas A. Beckett was the first reported haunting at the Tower. The Inner Curtain Wall was constructed in the 13th century and at the time Thomas’s ghost appeared unhappy at the construction. His ghost is said to have reduced the wall to rubble with one blow of his cross.

The Bloody Tower – Murdered Princes

The gruesome fortress is home to the spirits of the two famous young boys murdered by their Uncle Duke of Gloucester (Richard III). The ghosts of the two boys have been seen whimpering and clutching each other in white gowns in the rooms they once occupied in life.

The White Tower – White Lady

The oldest and most sinister of the towers is the White Tower. It is haunted by the ‘white lady’ who has been seen at the window of the tower waving to children in the opposite building. A Guard making his rounds at the tower alone in a room, suddenly heard a voice behind him whisper “There’s only you and I here”, upon turning to seek the owner of the voice the guard found that he was still alone in the room.

The Wakefield Tower – Sectre of Henry VI

The Wakefield Tower is reputed to be haunted by the ghost of Henry VI, who was murdered in the tower in 1471 by the Duke of Gloucester (later to become Richard III). It is said that on the anniversary of his death his grim figure appears then fades back into the stone.

Tower Green – The Screaming Phantom Countess

The execution site for many souls who lost their heads at the Tower is the Tower Green. Anne Boleyn and Lady Jane Grey are rumoured to haunt this spot. Anne is said to lead a ghostly procession of Lords and Ladies down the aisle of the Chapel Royal of St. Peter and Vincula. Her Headless apparition has also been seen walking the corridors of the Tower.

The ghost of Margaret Pole, Countess of Salisbury returns to the spot of her execution in horrifying style. Her screaming phantom is seen being chased around the block by a ghostly executioner.
