I should have added that I take pictures randomly at any place I stay during darkness. I was told afterwards that a monk had hung himself in one of the rooms. I can’t remember which room we were in but, it had twin beds and a sofabed in it.

The following is a recent report sent in by Mrs K Reading.

I stayed at The Bell Inn in Thetford last September with my husband. We stayed for one night and enjoyed our stay but I had a strange experience. I have had similar experiences before but not often. It is as if my body has gone to sleep but my mind is still awake. I am aware of everything in the room including my husband snoring next to me but my eyes are closed. In this state I saw the door of the bedroom open and a man standing in the doorway. He was in silhouette as the light was behind him. There was the sound of merriment coming from downstairs although the pub was closed and it was very late.

The door was hinged the wrong way and was the wrong colour. The man said ‘there is something wrong, there is something wrong’. Then I was aware of a small child in the bed between myself and my husband. She was very thin and pale. She wanted me to do something. Then she put her hand very gently on my arm. There was no feeling of malevolence. I was petrified. I knew I had to make my body wake up. I made myself call out. As before as soon as I succeeded the room was in its usual state. I feel ashamed I was too much of a coward to try to find out what the girl wanted but in my defence I can only say I have never felt such fear in everyday life. I have thought before I was having some kind of nightmare and didn’t tell anyone about my experiences. This time I told my husband and he suggested I ask at reception if the hotel was haunted but I felt rather foolish and decided not to.

My Grandparents apparently ran this hotel for a time, around 83 yrs ago I think. Apparently my Grandmother had seen a femal ghost on many an occasion.
