Situated opposite the church of St Thomas a Beckett, The Highwayman Inn is haunted by a number of ghostly apparitions.

In the Inn’s ‘Galleon Bar’ the door of the bar was taken from the ship ‘Diana’.  In 1868, 13 members of the ships crew perished when the ‘Diana’ became trapped in Arctic pack ice. Investigations into the paranormal happenings in the Galleon Bar have suggested that the apparitions are of dead mariners, who’s spirits remained locked in the fabric of the door. Other eerie events have included items moving around the bar by themselves, orbs hovering in the air and most notably a drifting figure of a man in a feathered cap.

Loves a good ghost story, especially whilst sat in front of an open log fire on a cold and dark winters night.
