The ghost of a nun haunts this sixteenth century house in Cambridge. Abbey House was built on the site of Barnwell Priory, which was established in 1112.
Phenomena such as loud banging on bedroom doors, footsteps on the staircase and an apparition rattling chains around the room have been reported. Also seen in the house is a ghostly nun who appears 3 or 4 times a month in the spring. Walking into bedrooms and standing at the end of beds then disappearing into the curtains.

I had strange experience I do belive that ghost do live in this house. Than after a while I stood up. Other experience was when ever I wanted to charge my phone I use to leve over night charging next morning I could see that the the button is off & when I turned off it was turned on. It is very very beautiful house good people live there
Hello everyone,

Hi Sudhi,

Thanks & best regards,

Is Abbey House open to visitors, and if yes what days and times? Thanks from Sophie
Hello Sophie,
Abbey House is now owned and occupied by the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order (FWBO) as a residential spiritual community. So, I doubt its open to the public. I hope this helps?
As part of their lease agreements the FWBO agreed to open the house for guided tours once a year. I’ve just been round it today in fact
Thanks for the update Terry.
How did you find the building? Anything spooky or odd about it? What was the atmosphere like?
Nothing spooky as far as I could tell – rather peaceful in fact. It was an interesting house, with layers of history as it had been altered over the years. The gardens were particularly nice
My great aunts lived in Beche Road just around the corner of Abbey House and many of my family before them lived in Priory Road, Abbey Road and Beche Road. I used to visit my great aunts in the 1960s & 1970s and yes this area is very haunted. I have seen a ghost in a form of a black scotty-type dog. It was about 25 years later when I found out that another member of my family had also seen this ghost and wouldn’t enter that house again after the sighting. I always got a strange feeling when I was playing in the garden as though someone was watching me from the Abbey and Abbey House.
Hi
I am really interested in paranormal things (i don’t really know what to call it lol) and i have recently moved to wisbech. I was browsing in my local library for books on ghosts\hauntings\paranormal stuff ect and picked up the book ”Paranormal Cambridgeshire” by Damien O’Dell so i took it out and i have been trying to do research on some of the places in the book and came across this on page 46. I was wondering if you could give me some more information on the house? Or maybe if there are any pictures or videos that i could possibly look at about Abbey House??
Thanks!

I was taken to the house when I was 9yrs old as part of a school day out. We were given a tour of the property and, if I remember correctly, there was a blocked passageway between the house and the Lepper chappel at the top of Newmarket road. True? or not?? lol
Hi Michael,
Many thanks for taking the time to write in, ill investigate further.
