Cornelius (an Irish Catholic Pries), hanged in 1594, haunts the Gate House at Wolfeton House.

He was executed for not renouncing his faith and was consequently hung, drawn and quartered at Dorchester. His ghostly footsteps are still heard climbing the ancient oak spiral staircase in the Gate House to the rooms he occupied in life.
